Family Programs at the High Museum of Art

The Toddler Thursday Phenomenon April 21, 2010

Filed under: In Studio Projects,Upcoming Events — erinkdougherty @ 1:00 pm

In case you haven’t heard, we have a great program that happens every Thursday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. here at the Museum. The program is Toddler Thursday and it’s one of the High’s longest-running education programs. If you have a 2- to 5-year-old at home, this is the perfect way to spend a Thursday afternoon.

Head into the Museum and pick up a schedule of the day’s happenings when you purchase tickets. Then go up to the galleries to find that day’s featured artwork. You will also find Ellsworth Kitty near the art. He and a friend will be reading a story for any visitors who are interested.

Ellsworth Kitty is waiting to hang out with you at Toddler Thursday.

After enjoying art and stories, go down to the Greene Family Education Center to create an inspired project. This week you’ll make Shrunken Self-Portrait Pendants. Are you intrigued? Then grab your tot and come hang out with us! To find out more details as well as other upcoming projects, head to our website.

 See you Thursday!

PS – Make sure you support  Carter’s and OshKosh whose generous support makes Toddler Thursdays possible.

Spring has Sprung! April 15, 2010

Spring has definitely arrived and our family programs took full advantage of it over the weekend. Studio Spring Break has come and gone and we topped off the week with a Family Day that was outrageously fun. If you weren’t able to attend, here are some photos from the day. Enjoy!

Many families contributed to an art car. Don’t try this at home, but we had a blast working on it here in the Piazza.

We also created hood and car door canvases. Families were able to collaborate with each other on these unique works of art that were displayed outside for the day:

We’ll be having more automobile fun at our June Second Sunday. Make sure to check back for details.

See you around the Museum,

April Fool’s Day April 1, 2010

This is no April Fool’s Day joke! We’re offering a special ticket price next week during Spring Break. $5 off all tickets or 20% off a Family Membership from April 6–11 (good on walk-up tickets only, cannot combine with other offers, and make sure to mention you read it on the blog).

During Spring Break week, we’ve got a great line-up of activities planned for you and your family to celebrate The Allure of the Automobile. Stop into the Museum to create your own mini car anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. from April 6–10 in the Greene Family Learning Center. Our fabulous teaching artist and volunteers will help you fold your way to designing a car. And who knows? Maybe we’ll see your designs on Peachtree Street someday soon!

And don’t forget about Family Day – Cars, Cars, Car! It’s so packed full of art projects, activities, and performances that I’m going to devote an entire entry just to that day. Stay tuned—details are on the horizon.

See you next week!
