Hello High Museum of Art Families!

It’s official: the public programs department has officially entered the blogging world. I know what you’re thinking: it’s about time. We couldn’t agree more. This is going to be our platform to talk to all of you hip, art-loving families. But before I jump too far ahead, I want to introduce you to the public programs team.

Virginia Shearer, Associate Director of Education, is the brains behind all of the activities that your family enjoys here at the Museum. She has a myriad of programming expertise from several museums. And on top of all her museum experience, she has two kids of her own. What better way to understand what families want than to ask your own?

I’m Erin and I come to you from snowy Minneapolis. I’ve shed my winter coat and started to get the hang of saying “y’all” as much as possible. After interning and working at MASS MoCA, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and The Walker Art Center, I’m looking forward to spending time with you creating and exploring art.

We love art and making projects with families here in the public programs department. I hope that you are as excited about the future of High Museum family programming as we are. The possibilities of creative activities and performances here are endless. Please stay tuned to this new blog for weekly updates on upcoming family programs, DIY crafts, pictures, updates, and so much more.

Signing off for now,

Virginia and Erin

I’m glad you have started this blog. We have been members for almost 5 years and we really miss the family art studio every weekend. The second Sunday program just isn’t as good as being able to drop in any weekend afternoon and work on a project. The studio was always packed with families, and we’re sad that the program was so scaled back.
